HRVAB is now offering a computer taster course under contract to East Sussex County Council.
Called Computer Bytes, the course is a short introduction to Computers and, in particular, software aimed at Visually Impaired People.
Starting January 2013, the course aims to introduce the participants to a computer and what it is capable of doing. It is aimed mainly at people who have never used a computer before and have a visual impairment. For this reason, the emphasis is on the specialist software program Guide.
There is an introduction of Word Processing, enabling VIPs to write their own letters or documents, and to the Scan and Read facility, which enables them to have printed documents read to them.
There is also an introduction to emails and how to access a website. Skype is also introduced.
The course also explains that some people can use a standard computer with only minor alterations to the personal preference settings. Examples of how this could be done are shown.
